Room VII · Collection
Fluorite is calcium fluoride, and it crystallises in near-perfect cubes and octahedra across a wider range of colours than almost any other mineral: purple, green, blue, yellow, pink and colour-zoned combinations of several.

It gave its name to fluorescence, and many fluorite specimens glow under ultraviolet light. At 4 on the Mohs scale, with cleavage in four directions, it is too soft for everyday jewellery and is best enjoyed as a display specimen, which is how most collectors keep it.
Fluorite is one of the most collected display minerals in the world, valued for crystal form, colour and lustre.
